Kunugi Renya (功刀蓮弥) is the main protagonist of Nidome no Jinsei o Isekai de. He has been reincarnated into Eredora by God after dying at the age of 94 yrs on Earth as his soul was able to withstand the Walls of the World.

Background
While on Earth, Kunugi Renya was the 14th successor of the Ittoryou Style of the Kunagi School and at the mere age of 13 yrs, he became the best swordsman from the whole school. Then at the age of 15 yrs, he went to China to learn various stealth and murder techniques and soon became part of one of the best armed and dangerous groups in the underworld. While being part of the underworld he killed so many people that just hearing his name people would run for their lives.
During World War 1 he enlisted in the army where he was recognized for his demonic strength as he had killed numerous people to the point of standing on a mountain of corpses with just his katana alone. This feat bestowed him the name "Demon Swordsman" and he was awarded many more recognitions by the militia and was sent to several battlefields.
In Eredora he was reincarnated by God into the body of an 18 yrs old male with no memories of his previous life. When he came too he found himself inside Maismatic Forest in the Eastern Continent with only the memories of his interaction with God after his death.

Physical Attributes
- Stamina - He is able to run long distances in a short amount of time without feeling exhaustion.
- Agility
- Skill - God's Blessings that allows him to have a lot of magic and physical aptitudes.
- Language - He has is able to speak and understand the native tongue of all races of Eredora thanks in part to "Another World Language" ability bestowed to him by God.
- Swordsmanship - Renya has retained all that he's learned about swordsmanship from his previous life.
- Martial artist - Renya has retained all that he's learned about Martial arts from his previous life.
- Limit Break (Skill)
Magic
Renya has a great affinity towards the wind element but is capable of using all the elemental magic. He is also able to activate spells without the need to recite the incantations. This allows him to use more than one spell simultaneously.
The spells known are:
- Light (Non-elemental Spell) - After chanting the incantation "Light grant me your strength." a small ball of light appears. This spell was bought from Carol Wilier for 7 Silver coins.
- Fire Bullet (Offensive Spell) - Its an offensive spell invoked by chanting the incarnation "Fire bullets grant me your strength". It was taught to him by Az Hound in exchange for lunch.
- Marco Burst (Offensive Spell) - It's the tweaked version of the advanced wind magic spell "Storm Formation" that creates a tornado to attack the enemy. It was taught to him by Kirie.
Weapons
Uchigatana
It is a long-sword member of the Japanese Katana family gotten in exchange for the Shinai. It's a sacred object having the attribute to destroy magic and with God's blessing was given the attribute 'Indestructibility'. It is shown to be extremely durable and is even able to cut ghosts.
It was intended as a substitute for the Shinai given to him by God and was taken from his grave back on Earth.
Knightly Sword
It is a straight, double-edged weapon with a single-handed, intricately detailed cruciform hilt. It was given to Renya by Shion who previously used it as a backup weapon.
Shinai (Formally)
This was the starting weapon he got from god. Though she intended to give him a sword since all the weapons in her disposals all had Level 10 attributes the Angels forbade her from giving it to him. It was later exchanged for katana with peddler Kirie (alias Giliel).
Unbeknownst to Renya God had made the shinai's attribute as 'Indestructibility' making it stronger than diamond. If used properly it could destroy anything including a castles walls or a dragons scales. It is also capable of destroying the seals that create the boundaries between the worlds. Thou after being returned to God this attribute was taken away.
Trivia
- Renya's background is most likely based on Prince Asaka Yasuhiko, former general of the Imperial Japanese Army who were alleged to be involved in the Nanking Massacre and passed away at the age of 93.
- Renya lived to 94, died of old age and was never tried for murder. While Prince Asaka was never tried for the Nanking Massacre as he was a member of the Imperial family, and died of natural causes at the age of 93.
- In the original web novel, it was stated that in his previous life, Renya once joined part into a world war where they attacked the capital city of China and killed a lot of Chinese citizens there at 1937. This might be a reference to the events of Nanking Massacre.
- This detail was removed and changed to Renya simply attacked an enemy city with no mention of the country's name in both light novel and manga adaptation.
- Renya killed 3712 people in his previous life on Earth. If the numbers arranged into a date, it can be read as December 1937, which is the same month and year when Nanking Massacre happened.
- His background may also be one of the main factors why light novel was axed and the anime adaptation being cancelled in June 6, 2018. beside the racist remarks made by the author on his Twitter account during 2013 through 2015 and the voice actors stepped down from their voice acting roles due to the controversy.
- Because of his background, there was a second version of the light novel where it never reveal Renya's background and removed all references to Nanking Massacre released exclusively in China before the light novel ceased publication.
- He is a battle maniac

- While on Earth he has not had a single girlfriend.
- He has a good cooking skill.
